From: To Enter Jerusalem "She
descends in a silver plane, then stands expectant, radiant—her dark hair and eyes, the sheer grace of her slender
body! As he presses her to him, the sun stops in its arc; they look into each other’s eyes—tears run down
their faces. No, no, he will never live without her again! He takes her to her hotel; they say nothing—she is a flower, her petals redolent with a fragrance which drowns his senses. Slowly she removes her blouse, her skirt, as they continue to gaze into each others’ eyes. He kisses her, as she undresses him, as he touches her, as they move toward a moment already contained in the present. His eyes close, as she kisses him, as somehow the past is erased, the demons gone, the hawks, the eagles, the malignant comets, as they move closer together, as their bodies rock back and forth, as with a tremendous burst of energy they become one—if only now, if only for this moment—he is free!" And later..... "He
stays up night after night---when will he have time even to unpack?---storing up information on each country---the foreign
ministry, its issues, its UN history---achieving his now famous "total comprehension," "immediate recall."
His eyes are a screen making report after report to his brain until he cannot hold another name, another set of problems.
Now his every word must be even more carefully scripted. The last traces
of his flamboyance or trusting intuition will be crushed beneath the infinite weight of responsibility." and.... "Beneath
the vastness of the stars, he looks out into the face of the world. He had inhabited only the smallest part,
a tiny planet circling a minor star. Had it mattered what he had done here? "Yes, yes!" Sabrina
shouts. She is with him as he stares into her eyes, only now they are his own, this his shape, as he merges his being
with hers---"Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath, And so live ever," as the light of the world fades
away...." Excerpts from other books to come soon!
